Il Bingo

Today I am sharing an activity that I created for my first week of school for my Italian II and III classes.  It is a Bingo activity.  I created it in a Power Point presentation, so that I could show the sentences one at a time.

1. first slide = I asked students to tell me what they would say if they met a new student.  I elicited the questions that I had prepared (I had the list of questions before me, but the students could not see them).  At this point, I did not want them to answer those questions; I just wanted to elicit some common expressions to start a conversation with a new student. Every time they answered a question, I revealed the answer on the board, so they could check whether theirs was correct.
2. after they answered all the questions, I passed out a copy of slides 1 & 2 (questions and bingo grid).  I showed slide 2 (bingo grid) and explained the rules.  At this point, they had to stand up, walk around the classroom and find 5 classmates that would respond to those characteristics in the box.  Obviously, everything in Italian.  I walked around, too, to check whether they were speaking, and they were! and, they were having a lot of fun.  The first 3 who completed the activity got an Italian snack, but I let the other students keep talking a bit more.  After 15 minutes, I passed out candy to everybody.  They loved it.
3.  After everybody got back to their seat, I showed slide 3.  At this point, it was their turn to answer each questions.  I let them answer individually for about 15 minutes; when they were done, I started going over the first questions by asking randomly.  As I was moving forward to the other questions, I started involving students asking classmates (so  I shifted from "you/I" questions to "she/he".  It took another 20 minutes or so.

Buon divertimento!
