the National Italian Exam is an official AATI national language contest held among middle and high school students. The NIE is not only an assessment tool, which can provide teachers and students with useful feedback to help inform instruction and curricula, it is also as an opportunity for visibility and for promoting Italian programs in North American schools.
The NIE provides an excellent way to highlight our students' success offering an extensive regional and national prize program that consists of monetary prizes, study-trips to Italy, medals and certificates to award students of all different abilities and to celebrate their accomplishments.
We strongly encourage instructors of Italian to invite their students to participate in the National Italian Exam, which, being aligned with the ACTFL Performance benchmarks, could also be taken in preparation for the exams of Seal of Biliteracy, and the SAT II. Finallly, the NIE will make your students eligible for the Società Onoraria Italica scholarships.
